Elements of Photography

Who should attend:

Anyone who wants to learn how to take their digital SLR photography to a higher level, both creatively and technically. We’ll bypass the boring and move directly to learning what builds a great photograph. You’ll come away with a better understanding of the digital photo process from shooting to editing and sharing your photographs.

What to expect:

We will educate you on how to translate your passion into inspired photographs. During this full day class, learn not only what makes an interesting photograph, but the techniques and fundamentals to shoot amazing photos too!

TIP: Compose photos using the “rule of thirds.” Think of the frame as being broken into nine rectangles (like a tic-tac-toe grid over the picture). Place your subject at one of the intersections of the lines for a more visually stimulating photo.

Topics will include:

  • Exposure—ISO, Aperture, Shutter Speed—how to get a proper exposure and be more creative

  • Taking control of your camera—understanding what all of the modes and settings are used for in order to take photos and make them more unique

  • Managing autofocus to your advantage

  • Understand the quality of light—learning how to modify light and use a camera’s built-in flash or an accessory flash to take well-lit photos

  • Workflow basics—shooting JPEG vs. NEF, basic editing using Capture NX-D software

  • Sharing your images via built-in Wi-Fi or by using Nikon’s Wireless Mobile Adapters

  • Fundamentals of shooting video

  • Explore creative types of photographs—High Dynamic Range photos, Time-Lapse, Night Photography, Light Painting, Underwater pictures, Close Ups, Black & White and more.
