Great wide angle zoom for DX cameras
I purchased this lens for use on my F-100. It is sharper on my new D-300s because of the crop factor. On a DX camera it becomes a 27mm - 52mm lens. For me this is a great range for a zoom and with ED and IF the price can't be beat. Other internet reviews agree with me.

Great lens
I purchased this lens several years ago, to go with my D1X. I found the lens to be sharp and crisp providing great colors. I still use this lens today on my D3. I now have a super wide angle lens when I need it. It is small, and light and I always have it in my camera bag. This lens has seen a fair amount of use and it keeps on working without fail. For the money, it is a great value in a wide angle zoom.

Infinity. I prefer the 24-70 f2.8 Ed II For all around use.You have the same 24mm but you will have a better Portrait lens and more power with the 70mm.But if you want power a 70-200 or 70-300 lens. The lens in a F3.5 is priced for starters. But later on you will Buy the 70-200 f2.8 Ed II. You will not regret buying this lens..I shoot this all the time on my D3 and a 24-70m F2.8 on the other Nikon D3.. My Next Trip in August is Alaska 7 day Trip....I need Gris PicsSample Photos & Videos

Answer:
Focus distance of 1 foot to infinity is ideal for landscape, snapshot, candid, environmental, close-up and full length portrait photography.
The lens seems to focus okay in the viewfinder, but the pictures come out dark around the edges and are not crisp.
